Neumarker is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Steven M. Paul as the Chairman of its Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Paul brings over 40 years of exceptional expertise and leadership in neuroscience, molecular neuropharmacology, and CNS drug discovery and development.

Dr. Paul is the Founder and Chair of the Board of Directors at Seaport Therapeutics. His distinguished career includes serving as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chair of the Board at Karuna Therapeutics from 2018 to 2022, and as Chief Scientific Officer and President of Research and Development from 2022 to 2024. Under his leadership, Karuna Therapeutics was acquired by Bristol Myers Squibb in March 2024.

Dr. Paul’s extensive experience includes 17 years at Eli Lilly and Company, where he held several key leadership roles, including Executive Vice President for Science and Technology and President of the Lilly Research Laboratories. At Lilly, he was instrumental in the development of notable CNS drugs such as Zyprexa® and Cymbalta®. Prior to his tenure at Lilly, Dr. Paul spent 18 years at the National Institute of Health (NIH) and served as the Scientific Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Dr. Paul is a co-founder and board member of Sage Therapeutics and Voyager Therapeutics, where he also served as President and Chief Executive Officer. He is a Venture Partner at Third Rock Ventures, former director of the Appel Alzheimer’s Disease Research Institute at Weill Cornell Medical College, and currently a Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology at Washington University of St. Louis School of Medicine.

Dr. Paul has authored or co-authored more than 600 papers and book chapters and has been recognized as an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the National Academy of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
